Step outside, slow down and paint Adelaide en plein air as South Australia turns into an open-air studio this spring.

Drop into one of AGSA’s free curated painting locations across the state and create your own artwork inspired by Monet to Matisse: Defying Tradition.

Beautiful Sauerbier House is thrilled to join AGSA's En Plein Air initiative and play host to creatives from across the state as an inspirational venue to paint and draw throughout Nature festival 2026. The artist led garden is looking particularly wonderful this year.

Whilst the galleries and studios are open we will have the urn on and complimentary cups of tea and coffee (self serve) will be available for participants to fuel your creativity. Of course, the Port Noarlunga cafes can provide something more hearty. We can also offer a few stools and tables should you require.

If you prefer something more formal, upcoming workshops by Jorji Gardener and Margaret Ambridge can definitely provide that. (Return to main page to see those details). And naturally you can still enjoy the house and grounds whilst we are closed.

Opening Hours during En Plein Air

Wed - Fri 10-4pm: 30 September, 1, 2 & + 7, 8, 9 October

Saturdays 1-4pm: 3 October (also our exhibition launches) + 10 October.

Painting locations include the Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide Botanic Garden, Carrick Hill, Mount Lofty Botanic Garden, Mount Lofty House, Barossa Regional Gallery, Sauerbier House, The Cedars, Wittunga Botanic Garden and Hahndorf Academy.
