Refugee Welcome Zone

The City of Onkaparinga signed the Refugee Council of Australia’s declaration to become a Refugee Welcome Zone in 2015. The declaration was and remains a commitment to welcoming refugees into our community.

A Refugee Welcome Zone is defined as a Local Government Area which has made a commitment in spirit to:

  • welcoming refugees into the community
  • upholding the human rights of refugees
  • demonstrating compassion for refugees and
  • enhancing cultural and religious diversity in the community.

This public commitment is also an acknowledgment of the tremendous contribution’s refugees have made to Australian society in the fields of medicine, science, engineering, sport, education, and the arts.

We celebrate the diversity that refugees and asylum seekers bring to our community and their contributions to our society.

Everyone is welcome and we proudly celebrate inclusion.
