Uluru Statement and First Nations Voice

The Uluru Statement from the Heart (2017) calls for three key reforms: Voice, Treaty and Truth. It is an invitation from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to walk together towards a more just and reconciled future.

On 16 May 2023, Council resolved to support the Uluru Statement from the Heart, acknowledging it as a very generous invitation for the Australian people and supporting informed and respectful conversation during the 2023 national referendum.

At a state level, the South Australian Government has committed to a state-based implementation of the Uluru Statement. This has started with the establishment of the First Nations Voice to the Parliament of South Australia, made up of Local First Nations Voice bodies across the state.

The City of Onkaparinga sits within the Central Local First Nations Voice region, which represents Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across metropolitan Adelaide.
