Becoming an Australian Citizen
The Department of Home Affairs manage all application inquiries for becoming an Australian Citizen.
Approved applicants for Australian Citizenship will be allocated to a citizenship ceremony by the Department of Home Affairs and will be sent a letter of invitation with the details for their ceremony. The invitation letter will include information on where your ceremony will take place, what time to arrive, what to bring with you on the day and how many guests can also be accommodated at the venue.
Please contact the Department of Home Affairs on 131 880 in the first instance for all inquiries about becoming a citizen and the allocation of ceremonies.
Citizenship Ceremony
Citizenship Ceremonies are a formal occasion during which candidates take the pledge of allegiance to Australia. Each ceremony takes approximately 1-2 hours depending on the number of candidates. Members of Parliament, Councillors and special guests are invited to attend each ceremony.
Each candidate will be required to bring photographic identification to assist with the registration process.
The City of Onkaparinga hosts regular Citizenship Ceremonies throughout each year, with a ceremony held annually on 26 January, Australia Day.
