About Hopgood Theatre
The Hopgood Theatre opened in 1985, as part of the Southern TAFE Campus as an Arts Training Facility in Noarlunga Centre.
In July 2008, it was re-named Hopgood Theatre after the Honourable Don Hopgood, former Member of State Parliament.
Hopgood Theatre is a unique theatre with its proscenium arch, 492 seating capacity, smaller secondary performance space, orchestra pit for live music and a fly tower for the movement of scenery and lighting. It is the only professional performing arts centre of its size in the southern Adelaide region.
The State Government transferred the custodianship of the theatre to City of Onkaparinga in 2023 along with a $6 million grant for a theatre refurbishment. The refurbishment will commence in mid-2024, launching a new era for theatre, performance and the creative arts in our region.
Country Arts SA have managed the theatre since 2008 and partnered with City of Onkaparinga in 2023 to continue to operate the theatre in the lead up to the refurbishment.
