The Food Centre Seaford
A community food hub, to be known as The Food Centre Seaford, will open in late October 2026, based at Hastings Street Community Hall.
It will provide affordable food and essential household items, opportunities for social connection and participation, and connections to local support.
The Food Centre Seaford will be supported by a community food outreach service at Aldinga Institute Hall, extending the reach of the project to the Aldinga area.
These services are being delivered in partnership with The Food Centre and Good Shepherd through the State Government's Social Supermarket Program.
The Food Centre Seaford
The Food Centre Seaford will provide low-cost groceries and essential household items in a welcoming, retail-style environment.
The centre is about more than affordable food. It will also provide opportunities for:
The centre is open to everyone. There are no eligibility requirements, assessments or referrals needed to access the service.

The Food Centre Seaford will be a place where local people and organisations can contribute, connect and share their skills.
Volunteer
Volunteers will play an important role in creating a welcoming experience for people using the centre.
Volunteer opportunities may include:
- welcoming and assisting customers
- serving customers
- stocking shelves and products
- supporting the onsite café
- helping with workshops and community events
- connecting people with programs, activities and services.
Partner with The Food Centre
The Food Centre is looking to build strong connections with local service providers, community groups, schools, businesses and not-for-profit organisations.
There may be opportunities to:
- deliver programs, workshops or activities
- provide outreach services or information sessions
- support community events
- connect people with local services and support
- share resources, skills or volunteer opportunities
- work together on initiatives that support food security and community wellbeing.

Community food outreach at Aldinga
The Food Centre Seaford will be supported by a community food outreach service at Aldinga Institute Hall.
The outreach service will extend the benefits of the Food Centre Seaford to people in the Aldinga area.
Details, including when the service will begin, will be shared once arrangements are confirmed.
About the project
The establishment of a community food hub was led by council in response to a February 2023 Council resolution to undertake detailed food security investigations to inform a council wide coordinated approach to identify locations of highest need for food security initiatives.
These investigations included food relief mapping, a household food security survey, community engagement process, and site analysis to determine the most suitable location for a community food hub in response to escalating food insecurity across the region. The findings are available in the Community Engagement Feedback Report.
The investigations identified the Central South District (Seaford and surrounding areas) as experiencing one of the highest levels of food security, with services limited and unable to meet demand.
The Food Centre was later successful in securing state government funding for the community food hub until June 2030.
In addition to seeking community feedback for the proposed community food hub at Hastings Street Community Hall, council also assessed a range of other venues in Seaford, Aldinga and surrounding areas. This included seeking community feedback for the proposed community food hub to be located at Seaford Community Centre and Aldinga Institute Hall. These engagements took place between March and May 2026.
After considering community feedback and assessing the locations, in June 2026, Council endorsed establishing the community food hub at Hastings Street Community Hall, along with a community food flexible outreach service at Aldinga Institute Hall.
