Hard waste and mattress collections must be booked separately.

Terms & conditions

How many collections are available?

Each household is entitled to 2 free collections per financial year.

You can choose from:

  • 2 hard waste collections OR
  • 2 mattress collections OR
  • 1 hard waste collection 1 mattress collection

If these entitlements have been used, please contact a Waste Transfer Station for disposal options.

What can be put out for a hard waste collection?

You can place a maximum of 2 cubic metres of material out for collection (ie. 1metre x 1metre x 2metre).

This can be made up of any unwanted bulky household goods that are too large to fit in kerbside bins, except the following items where other disposal options apply.

Not accepted

The following items are banned from landfill and are therefore not accepted:

  • Metals - steel and metal products such as white goods and hot water systems
  • e-waste (all electronic goods)
  • car parts - including batteries and tyres
  • cardboard (put in your recycling bin)
  • chemicals and hazardous materials (asbestos, paint, gas bottles, lino/vinyl flooring, waste oil and medical waste)
  • food and other material accepted in your waste, recycling or green organics bins
  • green organics
  • timber (excluding doors (cut to max of 1.5m), furniture and fittings)

The following items can cause damage to our collection vehicles and are therefore not accepted:

  • industrial or trade wasteincluding building and demolition waste (brick, rubble, tiles, concrete, stormwater piping (PVC), plasterboard or fiberglass or fibrocement board)
  • plate glass, glass doors, furniture with glass in it or mirrors

Items placed out that are not eligible for collection as per above OR do not meet the criteria identified below will not be collected and will be your responsibility to dispose of responsibly.

  • You can place a maximum of 2 cubic meters of materials out for collection (6x4 trailer load equivalent).
  • Items must be placed as close as practicable to the kerb without blocking pedestrian access (items will not be collected from private property).
  • Please remove doors from any furniture for the safety of children.
  • Items longer than 1.5 metres in length will not be collected.

Ensure items can be easily lifted by two people.

 

What can be put out for a mattress collection?

You can place a maximum of 2 mattresses out for collection per booking.

This can be made up of 2 mattresses, or one ensemble (mattress and base).
A king size ensemble out for collection includes the mattress and the two base units.

Foam / Latex mattresses cannot be recycled – please book a hard waste collection to dispose of these.

Are bookings required?

Yes. Bookings are essential.

Items can only be put out on the kerb for collection the day before your scheduled pick up.

Items placed on public land without a booking OR items placed out more than 24 hours prior to a scheduled collection are considered illegally dumped and can attract fines of up to $5000.

All items placed out on the kerbside are your responsibility until they are removed by the City of Onkaparinga. 

Check collection dates

To view open booking dates, please commence the booking process where a selection of dates will be available.

Please note: mattress collections occur weekly. Ensure to have mattresses out on the Monday of your booking, for collection between Tuesday-Thursday.

What if my booked items are not out on time?

If booked items are not out by the booked date for collection this entitlement will be deemed used and cannot be reinstated.

Please book another collection date.

Can I cancel my booking & rebook another date?

To cancel your booking:

  1. In the hard waste or mattress booking tab, click the ‘Book online’ button. This will log you into the portal again and you will be able to see your service record
  2. In the ‘Open service requests’ section click on the ‘Open’ button on the booking you wish to amend
  3. Click Cancel
  4. You will be asked if you are sure you want to cancel - Click OK

To book another date:

Once you have followed the above steps for cancelling your booking, click the top left button that says 'book hard waste' to start the process again.

Hard waste

Mattress

You can place a maximum of two items out for collection

  • 2 mattresses OR 
  • 1 ensemble (mattress and base)

Mattresses are to be placed leaning upright (where possible), as close as practicable to the kerb without blocking pedestrian access (items will not be collected from private property).

Please note: collections occur weekly. Ensure to have mattresses out on the Monday of your booking, for collection between Tuesday-Thursday.
If items are not presented for collection, this will still count towards your collection entitlements.

Do not proceed with this request if you are unable to place your item/s out for collection as specified above.
