Plein Air Workshop with Gemma Rose Brook

Join current artist in residence Gemma Rose Brook for a sketch tour around Sauerbier House. Enjoy a relaxed and supported creative environment for the afternoon as you explore the art of drawing plein air in different sites close to the house.

During this immersive workshop Gemma will guide you through techniques and methods to create your unique landscape in response to the surroundings.

Materials list for the session; charcoal, pastels, erasers, paint/brush pens, fine tip pens, ect and a portable good quality sketch book. Optional portable camping chair. Please let us know if you have any accessibility requirements.

About Gemma Rose Brook

Gemma Rose Brook is a South Australian painter based on Kaurna Land.

In the act of painting from life she aims to capture a certain psychological mood or an emotional narrative within experiencing an environment or place. Her visceral mark making is highly influenced by female modernist and expressionist influences.

Gemma graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Adelaide Central School of Art in 2019. Gemma has been a finalist in the Paddington art prize, the National Emerging art prize, The Heysen Prize for landscape, the Fleurieu Biennale, the Elaine Birmingham National Watercolour prize at QAGOMA, Gallery M prize, The Adelaide Parklands prize and won first prize at the 2020 RASASA YouthScape prize. Gemma received further professional development opportunities with Carclew, The prestigious Country Arts SA POP residency, A fellowship residency in Sydney and short course at the National Arts School, mentoring by well renowned painter Tom Carment and more recently in from Italy where she completed a residency at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica di Venezia during the Venice Biennale. Her work has been extensively exhibited and collected nationally.
