Rechargeable household batteries and chargers

Batteries are a growing problem in the waste stream. They cannot be placed in household recycling bins and can be dangerous if not disposed of correctly. Damaged or incorrectly disposed batteries can cause fires and other safety risks.

Using rechargeable household batteries helps reduce the amount of single-use battery waste going to landfill. Rechargeable batteries can be used many times, making them a safer and more sustainable option for households.

Complete the form below to apply for a rechargeable battery and charger rebate. You can claim 50% of the purchase cost, up to a maximum of $50.

Applications can include multiple purchases. However, each household can only receive one rebate per rebate category for the lifetime of the program. Rebates do not reset each year.

Eligible items include:

  • rechargeable household batteries (such as AA, AAA, C, D and 9V)
  • battery chargers to recharge the above.

The rebate does not include:

  • other battery sizes or chargers for those batteries e.g. power tools, cars, button batteries.
  • solar panel chargers or other solar charging devices.

Please ensure that your proof of purchase contains the following information:

•   your full name
•   the retailer or store name
•   date of purchase
•   a clear description and cost of each item purchased.

If your receipt does not include your name (for example, purchases from Aldi, Big W or Bunnings), you will also need to provide proof of purchase showing your name, such as a bank statement.
