Believed to have been built in the 1840's, the building was home to Alexander Anderson who came from Scotland to South Australia in 1838 on board the 'Surry'. His brother Peter settled nearby at Archerfield (now the site of Christies Beach Police Station). Both families were farmers and associated with the John Knox Free Presbyterian Church and School at Morphett Vale.
Formally known as 'Mossgiel', the building is constructed in stone with slate floors and an unusual double gabled galavanised iron roof.
