  •  I'm wondering if you could provide any comments from the mayor regarding the Sellicks Beach land release.

We recently received notice that the Minister for Planning has approved the proposal to initiate the Sellicks Beach Code Amendment, which could see an additional 1700 homes on land to be rezoned as residential.

The Department for Trade and Investment is leading the Code Amendment, given the significance of the site and multiple land ownership. It will coordinate with the Housing Infrastructure Planning and Development Unit (HIPDU), which was established in early 2023 to facilitate a cross-government approach to infrastructure planning for such sites as Sellicks Beach.

We’ve been informed that council’s Sellicks Beach Structure Plan will underpin much of the upcoming additional infrastructure investigations, which underlines the importance of sound strategic planning, not only for Sellicks, but for other suburbs where the state government has announced land releases such as Aldinga, Hackham and Noarlunga Downs.

As with any new land release or development, we want to ensure we get the best possible outcomes for our community, which includes good sustainable house design; green, usable open spaces; safe access and egress, and access to high quality essential services—things our residents tell us are their top priorities.
