Response to the Fleurieu Sun.
- The journalist requested some comments about the new seed library at Willunga Environment Centre in partnership with council.
Comments attributed to Mayor Moira Were
Seed libraries are such a fantastic initiative, allowing residents to add colour to their gardens, attract native birds, bees and wildlife, and grow their own fruit and veggies—all for free!
Gardening helps us to stay healthy and active, and growing your own food is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. At the end of the growing season, you can pay it forward by saving seeds and sharing them with friends and family.
You don’t need to be an expert either. Take-home information and instructions about planting and taking care of your seedlings are available at both the Willunga Environment Centre and Woodcroft Library seed libraries, and council’s website. We’ll also be hosting a range of tours, workshops and activities in future to help people hone their skills even further.
A huge thank you to the Wirra Creek Community Garden and Woodcroft Morphett Vale Neighbourhood Centre volunteers for collecting and packing the libraries’ inaugural seeds for the community.
