Published on 09 December 2025

Enquiry - Channel 7 and ABC Radio Adelaide

The journalist/producer asked for comments about a proposed plastic manufacturing facility for Old Reynella, which is currently out for public notification and is scheduled to be assessed at the Council Assessment Panel's March meeting.

Response

The application is for a “change of use to light industry for the purpose of plastic manufacturing, along with alterations and additions to the existing building, water tanks, fence, removal of one significant and 5 regulated trees and advertisement”. This development application is currently under assessment and is on public notification until 17 December 2025.

The documentation supplied with the application, and available for public viewing via the public notification section of the PlanSA website, provides additional details of the application including the following:

  • the proposal would utilise the existing large onsite warehouse by upgrading it to extend its life for years to come
  • the proposal is for Techno Plas to produce a range of medical and other plastic products through an injection moulding process
  • Techno Plas do not actually manufacture plastic. Plastic pellets, manufactured elsewhere, are used as a raw material to be heated and pressed through injection moulding to create the products they sell
  • the applicant has indicated there is no smell, noise or trade waste generated by the process
  • the application does not trigger a referral to the Environment Protection Authority, in accordance with the Planning and Design Code and the Planning, Development and Infrastructure legislation
  • the injection moulding component is to be housed within a purpose-built “clean room” that confines noise
  • the applicant has also supplied acoustic, traffic, environmental and planning reports in support of their application.
