Media response - summer event at Port Willunga

Published on 16 September 2019

Response to Southern Times Messenger.

  • I'm following up on the proposed Summer at Port Willunga event not going ahead. I've spoken to the Australian Trade Alliance and they have said it is not going ahead because the council didn't want to cop flack from residents about it. Did the council have concerns about the event.

Comments attributed to Mayor Erin Thompson

In July we invited communities, businesses and resident groups to provide their feedback on all proposed 2019-20 foreshore and coastal activations.

68 per cent of people who responded were opposed to the Summer at Port Willunga activation so this event will not proceed.

Residents were however in favour of 11 other events and activities which will this week be considered by Council for approval.

This is fantastic for Onkaparinga and we’re expecting thousands of locals and visitors to come along and soak up the atmosphere on our coastline this summer.
