Media response - Dog incidents in Morphett Vale
Published on 19 June 2019
ENQUIRY – Channel 9
I’ve heard two dogs involved in a dog attack that left a woman requiring surgery and saw her cat killed on Friday, have been returned to their owner. Is this the case and, if so, why were they returned? What are the next steps?
Can you also clarify if the same dogs were involved in an incident earlier in the month? A man commented on Facebook that he’d helped a young family bailed up at a park near Flaxmill Road and they’d made a report. I’ve spoken to them and just waiting for an exact time and date.
RESPONSE
An incident took place on Friday 14 June, which was reported to Council, and Rangers are investigating. This involved one dog attacking a cat and the cat’s owner. The dog has been seized and impounded.
A separate incident involving another dog owned by the same person was reported to us today. This involved harassment on another dog. This dog has also been seized and impounded.
A decision on action is being made now, including whether a destruction order or other form of control will be imposed, and how the alleged offences will be pursued.
We are looking into whether either dog was involved in an incident earlier in the month, and any history will be considered when determining our course of action. If the matter wasn’t reported to council at the time, we’d encourage those involved to report it now.
