Please join Margaret to celebrate the launch of Encroachment, the result of twelve weeks spent in studio as artist in residence. We welcome guest speaker Catherine Truman, artist and mentor to formally open the event from 2.30pm.

About Margaret 

My art practice is grounded in drawing, and is extended to include sculpture, installation, photography and video. I explore social silences and taboos through engagement, collaboration and making. Extensive conversations with participants both inform and constitute elements of my work. My tonal approach to drawing involves endless charcoal mark-making and subsequent erasure. The method is slow, the passage of time allowing me to examine my own responses to complex conversations, to question the social and cultural boundaries we place on each other, our environments and relationships. To deepen connection, I work in response to and adapt materials that have already had a life such as bed linen, clothing, dress makers’ patterns, and tree bark. The physical process of making allows me time to contemplate and work collaboratively with the material and its history. My long-term investigations pose questions about the various imprints of colonisation and the impact of invasive species on sensitive physical and psychological ecologies. I support my professional art practice by working part-time as a palliative care physiotherapist.
