Kay Brothers Amery Winery
Description
The original building was constructed in the 1850's by Richard Aldersey. It is built of ironstone quarried on the propery. The property was purchased by the Kay brothers in 1890. The winery, completed in 1895, was positioned on the side of a steep hill and made use of natural gravitation. The ceilings were insulated with seaweed. Additions were made to the winery in 1896/7, 1927, 1938 and 1972. The original dwelling was extended in 1895 and the front portion, including the towers built in 1910. The winery and property remains in the Kay family's ownership today.
