Smart parking in Port Noarlunga

We have implemented smart parking technology in the Port Noarlunga township to improve access to parking and reduce unnecessary vehicle circulation.

How it works

Smart parking signs display real-time information about available parking spaces in the township’s two primary off-street car parks:

  • Beachside car park
  • Town Centre car park

Cameras installed within these car parks detect whether parking bays are occupied. This data is automatically shared via a combination of:

  • E-paper digital signs, which are energy efficient, clearly visible in sunlight, and backlit for night-time use
  • Static wayfinding signage positioned at key township entry points

This system helps drivers make informed decisions about where to park and contributes to smoother traffic flow through the township.

Camera use and privacy

This system uses vision-based sensors — CCTV cameras placed to detect vehicle presence only.

There is no recording capability, and the system cannot broadcast imagery other than during set up and routine maintenance undertaken by external technicians.

All technology complies with the Surveillance Devices Act 2016 (SA), the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and the Australian Privacy Principles.
