Beach parking and closures

Rangers on beach

This Australia Day long weekend, we expect thousands of people to park their cars on the sand at Moana, Aldinga, Silver Sands and Sellicks Beach.

Dry zones are in place at Christies Beach, Port Noarlunga and Moana, these dry zones are enforced by SA Police.

If beaches become overcrowded, SA Police will close vehicle access to the beach, Our traffic management teams will be stationed at each beach vehicle entry ramp.  Please be patient and listen to any directions given by the traffic management team.

If you are a City of Onkaparinga rate payer or resident, you can collect your seasonal beach permit free of charge from the Visitor Information Centre at McLaren Vale, all council offices and libraries.  You will need to provide your proof of residency when collecting your beach permit (eg drivers licence or rates notice). At the ramp, presenting your driver’s licence or rates notice will not be accepted.

If you do not have a seasonal beach permit, there is a fee of $12 to enter and park on the beach.

Our Community Safety team will be out and about ensuring that a safe day is had by all, we will monitor the beaches throughout the day and provide updates on our Facebook page and digital signboards at Seaford, Silver Sands, Aldinga, Sellicks Beach and Moana.  Our Community Safety team will not have seasonal beach permits available over the weekend.

Portable toilets and extra bins will be placed at selected locations along the foreshore.

Please remember our beaches are family friendly so keep our children safe by driving at the speed limit of 10km per hour on all our drive on beaches.

With the high tides predicted to peak at 7pm on Sunday 26 January and at 6.34pm Monday 27 January. Please watch the water and move your vehicle as necessary to avoid it becoming stuck in the water.

Due to deep soft sand, Moana Beach is suitable for 4WD vehicles only. If a 2WD or AWD car gets bogged in the deep, soft sand, the access ramp will close until traffic flow is restored. Please avoid this inconvenience for everyone!

Have a great day and remember to slip, slop, slap and stay hydrated.  Have fun and appreciate some of the best beaches in our state.
