Work on the much-awaited Witton Bluff Base Trail is advancing well, with the boardwalk anticipated to be completed by the end of 2024.

Most of the framing and decking has been completed on both the southern and northern limestone shelfs. Handrail support posts and balustrades are also being installed along the completed sections of decking. Each balustrade is custom-made to fit the specific dimensions and angles measured on-site.

Most of the boardwalk's sub-structure is made from Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) because it's durable and requires little maintenance, which is perfect for coastal conditions.

The steelwork for the area between the two limestone shelfs has been manufactured off-site and its erection will commence this week.  The exposed coastal location makes this particularly challenging work.

Once the boardwalk has been completed, work will commence on repairs to the existing sea wall to the north of the new boardwalk to help protect the cliff’s infrastructure from erosion and rising sea levels.

An upgrade of the existing path at the Christies Beach end of the bluff will complete the project, with the fully completed Witton Bluff Base Trail expected to open to the public by mid-2025.

The trail will provide access for people of all abilities, encouraging the community to stay healthy and active in stunning surrounds, and boosting the local economy through increased visitation.

The $6.7 million Witton Bluff Base Trail is jointly funded by the City of Onkaparinga and the state government. Head to our Your Say page for project updates.
