Media response - Winwest development

Response to The Advertiser.

  • Looking for council comment regarding the Winwest/Latitude Aldinga Beach development. I believe the ERD case is finalised now.

Is council satisfied with Winwest's amended plans to build the three four storey buildings and one six storey building at Aldinga Beach?

The amended plans agreed to by Council and the other parties to the appeal were for four buildings of three storeys each, plus a rooftop terrace/communal space on one of the buildings and undercroft parking beneath all four buildings.

Why did council decide to agree to the amended development plans?
The amended plans were considered to sufficiently satisfy the relevant provisions of the Development Plan, including those for the Targeted Infill Precinct in the Medium Density Policy Area of the Residential Zone. The site is also directly opposite the District Centre Zone.

How much did the legal process cost council?
Given the matter was settled between the parties in the conference mode of the appeal, the significant costs of a trial were avoided. Legal costs incurred for the conference negotiations since June 2018 (when the Strategic Directions Committee endorsed the administration to lodge a third party appeal in the ERD Court) totalled $35,600, which was within operational budgets. Now that the appeal has been finalised, the confidential reports, attachments and resolutions are in the process of being released.
