Onkaparinga targets $10.8M refurbishment Noarlunga Aquatic Centre

Published on 21 November 2024

A $10.8 million refurbishment of the Noarlunga Aquatic Centre is being planned, ensuring the beloved facility continues to serve the community for years to come.

The City of Onkaparinga, which took over the centre’s management in 2021, has already made significant upgrades, including unisex and accessible changerooms, a modernised gym with new equipment, and improved pool lane ropes and starting blocks.

If approved, the next phase of works will focus on renewing the building and pool and modernising the filtration and disinfection plant.

Planned upgrades include replacing the existing roof and ceiling, painting, the installation of a 99kW solar power system, a new pool liner, and a modern water filtration system.

The lagoon pool will be separated from the main pool, and an accessible ramp will be added to enhance inclusivity for all users.

A report will be presented to Council in December about the planned renewal works including costs and efforts to secure the additional state or federal government funding required for the project to proceed.

Detailed designs are expected to be finalised by December 2024.

If fully funded and approved, the project will require an extended pool closure.

“We understand a shutdown would inconvenience many of our regular pool users, but this investment will lead to a more modern facility with better bather comfort, requiring fewer chemicals to maintain water quality,” said Onkaparinga CEO Phu Nguyen.

“The current facility has served us well for over 30 years, but now is the time for this important renewal work to ensure it remains a valuable community asset.”

Further details will be provided in 2025, pending successful funding applications and Council approval.
