Grow Bolder

Grow Bolder is part of our campaign to tackle ageism and reduce the stereotypes that exist and which may prevent older people from trying new activities, pursing their goals and leading their most fulfilling lives. More information is available on our Challenge Ageism pages.

PAST EVENTS

More than 100 people joined our recent Grow Bolder dance event called Moves and Grooves on Oct 17 at Port Noarlunga Arts Centre — a day filled with energy, laughter and the joy of moving to music! The event showcased a wonderful mix of dance styles including seated dance, line dancing, cultural and belly dance, ballroom, and Zumba-inspired movement.

Participants told us they “loved being able to move at their own pace” and appreciated “the friendly instructors and variety on offer.” The modified and seated dance sessions were especially popular, showing how creative movement can be accessible and fun for everyone — no matter your ability, confidence, or experience.

Grow bolder with your words

The Grow Bolder Photographic exhibition was part of SALA 2025 at the Noarlunga Library This striking black and white photographic exhibition featured 15 portraits of local older community members alongside their own words. The exhibition sheds light on the skills, qualities, and life experiences that defy common stereotypes about ageing. Through the Grow Bolder not just older initiative, the council’s Active Ageing and Ability team is encouraging a rethink of what ageing really looks like—and more importantly, what it feels like to be seen and valued at every stage of life.
