RediCommunities Project

What is a CDR group?

A group of community members who together identify and take local actions for better local recovery.

In 2019 the Australian Red Cross and council piloted the first Community-led disaster resilience (CDR) project in Kangarilla.

In 2022 three more CDR's began- Cherry Gardens Ironbank Recreation ground; Clarendon and Seaford-Moana.

Who supports CDR projects?

Local community members who want themselves, their families and neighbourhoods to recover well after an emergency.

A Community Connections Officer who helps guide the process and connect partners.

Australian Red Cross run a workshop series. This helps the CDR group to map strengths and local knowledge to come up with a plan for their community.

Where are the CDR groups?

Currently there are six established CDR’s:

  • Clarendon
  • Cherry Gardens / Ironbank
  • Kangarilla
  • Seaford / Moana
  • Sturt Gorge (Coromandel Valley / Craigburn / Flagstaff Hill)
  • Willunga

2023 Olive Harvest (supported by grants from the South Australian and Federal Government)

Saturday the 27th May 2023 saw the inaugural Clarendon Community Olive Harvest on Harper Road Clarendon. The Clarendon CFS, Noarlunga SES, City of Onkaparinga and the Clarendon community undertook a roadside clean-up of feral olive trees and gathered the olives from the limbs of the removed trees for processing.

The Olive Harvest was seen as an opportunity to make some good of the planned removal of the roadside olive trees – by harvesting and processing the olives. The tree removal is part of a coordinated plan by CoO to reduce the fuel load alongside the roads in and around Clarendon. This roadside and verge clean-up is one of seven initiatives of the local Clarendon Resilience Group.

Kangarilla

Kangarilla Community Emergency Resilience Group

Working towards creating a community who can effectively find our "new normal" after we experience a significant emergency event (i.e. bushfire, flood, natural disaster or another such emergency).

We aim to provide opportunities where locals can learn and share what they can do to ensure safety and wellbeing of their households:

  • education and ideas for seasonal property preparation
  • how Government and Emergency Responders take action during significant emergency events
  • Supporting activities that connect us together as a community to strengthen future resilience

This group is proudly supported by the Kangarilla Progress Association who have been leading this work since 2020.

All community members are welcome to attend our regular opportunities locally:
