Media response - RSPCA funding agreement

Response to The Advertiser.

  • Will council be contributing extra funds toward the continued impounding of dogs at the RSPCA Lonsdale shelter?

A facility for the detention of dogs and cats is required to fulfill council’s obligations under the Dog and Cat Management Act.

The City of Onkaparinga has entered into an agreement with the RSPCA SA to detain and where suitable re-home, dogs and cats for an annual service fee.

Those fees are $330K in 2020-21, $500K in 2021-22 , $690K in 2022-23.

The council’s $50,000 contribution to the free cat desexing program is included in these annual costs.

To clarify, estimated costs for 2019-20 are $110,000 so far. This is not a final figure as we are still awaiting remaining invoices for the period.
