  • The journalist requested an update on any developments around the Aldinga Washpool and Button Road.

The Aldinga Washpool is a unique location in our city and state. Cultural, ecological and community values will continue to inform our plans and advocacy.

The Washpool was proclaimed a part of the Aldinga Conservation Park in 2022.

As the state government  develops the park management plan to guide the direction for the Washpool and nearby Aldinga Scrub, we will continue to advocate for protection and restoration of this special place.

We’re contributing more parcels of our land to be incorporated into the park, and we recently considered feedback received from the community about what they feel is important to value about the western section of Button Road, which runs through the Washpool. Traffic assessments undertaken in winter and summer provided useful information about the usage of this section of road.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback during the engagement – it was fantastic to see so many considered responses regarding the protection of this biodiversity haven, the importance of Kaurna heritage, and access requirements in the area.

This information and feedback will help shape the council’s advocacy approach for the Washpool into the future, and will also be provided to the Department for Environment and Water for consideration as the park management plan is developed.
