Employee gifts and benefits register

City of Onkaparinga employees are to behave in a way which complies to the highest standards of integrity, responsibility and fairness in the workplace, the Council Chamber, and in relations with the community and one another.

Under section 109 of the Local Government Act 1999 (SA), all council employees are expected to at all times act honestly and with reasonable care and diligence in the performance of official duties.

Section 119 of the Local Government Act 1999 states an employee of a council must not seek out or receive a gift or benefit that is, or could reasonably be taken to be, intended or likely to create a sense of obligation to a person on the part of the employee or influence the employee in the performance or discharge of the employee's functions or duties.

The Act requires gifts and benefits that are of a value greater than an amount determined by the Minister to be included on a register on the council's website. This amount has been determined by notice in the Gazette to be $50. The City of Onkaparinga has determined to publish the details of all gifts and benefits either accepted or declined regardless of value.
