Serpentine Reserve BMX track temporarily closed

The Serpentine BMX track remains closed after asbestos-containing material was found at the site.

The track was closed on 23 December 2025 after small pieces of building material found on the surface was tested and confirmed to contain asbestos.

In the interest of community and environmental safety, the area has been fenced off and warning signs have been installed. Public access is not allowed.

It is not known how the asbestos came to be on site.

All soil brought onto the site for council’s Community Dig Day was tested before delivery and found to be suitable for reuse. Visible asbestos material on the surface has now been removed.

The BMX track will remain closed while environmental and remediation specialists carry out further testing to determine next steps.

Further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
