A.S. Perry Reserve (Perry's Bend)
This wetland trail was opened in 2016 after the wetlands were rehabilitated by SA Water.
The 16-hectare site was formerly a sludge lagoon near a wastewater treatment plant, but has been transformed into a thriving wetland.
The Noarlunga Downs Wetland Trail follows the edge of what is now a predator-free sanctuary. The sanctuary features a series of interconnected pools that treat urban stormwater before the water enters the Onkaparinga River.
A.S. Perry Reserve on River Road is named after Alfred Stanley Perry, who was a son of Alfred Perry and Mary Clark. The Perry family occupied a farm commonly known as Eleanora which was located on nearby Nurlu Karrangka/Eleanora Park. The Clark family were neighbours, residing at Green Loop Farm, opposite the location of A.S. Perry Reserve. Eleanora is still standing, though the old farmhouse is in ruins. Green Loop Farm was demolished in the 1990s.
Alfred was born at the family farm in 1888 and died in 1940. He was a farmer. Alfred married Ivy Ann Collins and they had four children.
Alfred died at hospital following an accident on his farm when a horse attached to a spring dray bolted and he jumped out, sustaining an injury to his leg which became infected.
