The Santos Tour Down Under is back in 2026 with the City of Onkaparinga set to host 2 stages in the 26th year of this iconic event! Since its inception in 1999, the City of Onkaparinga has partnered with the Tour Down Under every year and we are excited to be hosting it once again. For the first time, all women Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) WorldTour professional cycling teams will be competing in the Santos Tour Down Under.

These stages will showcase a great deal of our regions internationally recognised assets including the stunning coastline and McLaren Vale wine region, as well as our historic townships and incredible local businesses!

The Santos Tour Down Under is the biggest cycling race in the southern hemisphere, and the 10-day event brings both male and female (UCI) WorldTour professional cycling teams to race on the streets of Adelaide and regional South Australia each January.

Saturday 17 January - Ziptrak Women Stage 1

Willunga Town Square -  Enjoy live music, local artists creating on site, market stalls, plenty of shade and seating, and a fantastic spot to set up for the day with the race start and finish happening in Willunga High Street. Settle in for a relaxed, family-friendly day in the heart of Willunga surrounded by all things cycling. More information can be found here.

Ellis Park, McLaren Vale - Come on down to McLaren Vale and grab yourself some breakfast and take in the community efforts of the Decorate your Bike Competition. Can they take out the honours of being this years 'Santos Best Dressed Town?' Then, gather your friends and family at Ellis Park where you can enjoy kids’ games and community activities as you wait for and watch the band of world class cyclists whip past the park, right in front of you.

 Willunga Town Square offering has reduced do to the extreme weather conditions, shade and water will still be provided on race day. 

Road closures and parking restrictions

The following changed traffic conditions will be in place during the Santos Tour Down Under:

Further to this, South Australian Police implement rolling road closures throughout the City of Onkaparinga on Saturday 17, Friday 23 and Saturday 24 January 2026 in accordance with the race. This can last for around 30 minutes each time the cyclist’s pass. Changes can be made at any time time to all traffic management plans under South Australia Police jurisdiction in accordance with public safety. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time. 

Rolling road closure times can be estimated based on the below point to point information associated with each stage:

THINK! Road Safety Men's Stage 4: Brighton to Willunga Hill via Flagstaff Hill, Coromandel Valley, Chandlers Hill, Clarendon, Kangarilla, McLaren Flat, McLaren Vale, Willunga, Willunga Hill, Sellicks Hill, Aldinga Beach, Port Willunga and Maslin Beach

 

 

 

 

Best parking locations

In addition to general street parking in Willunga, there will be parking available in the following locations:

  • Willunga Recreation Park  - access via Railway Tce gate. $5 cash donations will go towards the 2026 fundraising for this facility
  • Surrounding streets 

Smoke and vape free event

As part of the 2026 event, the Santos Tour Down Under will operate under the Major Event Legislation. Under this legislation, the entire event site – including the TDU Village and all race routes – will be designated as smoke-free and vape-free for the duration of the event.

The townships of McLaren Vale, Willunga and Aldinga are participating in the Santos Best Dressed Town Competition. We encourage you to visit these townships and see their efforts to best represent their town and businesses.
