The work was commissioned as part of the new foreshore upgrades. The sculptures were inspired by and meant to reflect the geology of the area, based on core samples of the surrounding landscape/cliff faces. The sculptures were cast in sections at my studio in Lonsdale and incorporate cast and fused glass, ceramic and stone inclusions in the special cement castings. They took over 6 months to construct and install.
They are also intended to allude to the erosion, decay and weathering of the effects of the sea.
