Media response - tree branch fall in Morphett Vale
Published on 12 November 2024
Response to The Advertiser.
- A parent from [Wirreanda Secondary] school sent us this image this morning. As I understand it, the branch fell over night so there were no passengers on board and there are no reported injuries. I would like to know though how often council is conducting reports on trees and if these trees in particular had been subject of a report recently. If residents in your area are concerned about street trees, who should they contact?
RESPONSE
We have been advised that the tree in question is on school grounds – our team only maintains trees on council land.
We follow a risk management approach to managing our trees with a focus on high occupancy/activity areas such as schools and playgrounds.
We maintain an inventory of trees on a routine monitoring list where we assess changes in tree health and condition, and localities with known or reported concerns, taking appropriate maintenance actions to mitigate risk.
Residents can report any concerns with trees on council land by calling our Customer Relations team on 8384 0666 during work hours or 8384 0622 after hours.
