Media response - bus bogged at Aldinga Beach

Published on 13 February 2025

Response to ABC News.

  • A journalist enquired about a bus that was bogged on Aldinga Beach in the shallows, and any penalties the driver might face.

We’re aware of an incident this morning at Aldinga Beach where a bus became bogged in the shallows. We understand the bus may have been on the beach during prohibited hours (between 12am and 5:30am).

While we could issue an expiation under council bylaws, we often use an educational approach for first offenders who might not be familiar with our beaches and the rules that apply.

Council staff aren’t involved with vehicle recovery when these incidents occur, and this is normally facilitated by local tow companies at the vehicle owner’s expense.

The incident is a timely reminder to observe all signage at beach access ramps, stay on the hard sand, and be aware of incoming tides to avoid getting bogged.
