The producer requested comments about the latest on a proposed wave pool development in Aldinga.

Response

The Break wave pool lodged a new development application (25024223) for the site at 22 Tuit Rd Aldinga on 10 September 2025.

The nature of development is proposed as: Construction of a recreation facility (surfing lagoon), tourist accommodation cabins (35) with associated café/restaurant, shop, office, wellness studio, surf academy, freestanding advertising signage, fencing and ancillary carparking and landscaping.

The public can find application details on the PlanSA public register.

Following feedback from council staff and residents, the original (now cancelled) development application has been amended to remove both the ‘Tap House’ and the 25m high light towers.  The applicant has now proposed lighting for the carpark and some flood lights attached to buildings to light the lagoon in the evenings.

The applicant has indicated a proposed capacity across the whole site as being capped at 400 people and proposed the below hours of operation of the site are generally 7am – 11pm.

The site is located within the Tourism Development Zone and does not trigger public notification due to the uses proposed being exempt from notification within the zone. It is currently proposed that the application will be delegated by the Assessment Manger (the Relevant Authority) to the Council Assessment Panel for consideration and determination at a public meeting.

Further information on the proposal can be found on the proponent’s website https://thebreak.com.au/.
