Media response - Aldinga Sports Park

Media response to On the Coast.

  • Any chance of getting a comment to me regarding the awarding of $2.6m for the Aldinga Sports Complex? Also, it would be great if the comment could answer the question 'How will Council work with stakeholders to ensure the most appropriate redevelopment is made?'

Comments attributed to Mayor, Erin Thompson

Council has been working closely with Rebekha Sharkie MP to deliver this outstanding outcome for the community and we’re grateful to her and the Federal Government for their commitment.

This is evidence that all tiers of government can work effectively together to support the current and future needs of a growing community.

The funding gives a huge boost to the City of Onkaparinga’s commitment to deliver a multi-sports complex for Aldinga.

The project will deliver much needed club facilities and support growth of the region.

It also builds on our work with State Government to ensure an integrated approach to planning for the new Aldinga School, opening in January 2022.

This investment complements Council’s ongoing investment across our city in facilities for AFL, cricket, soccer, netball, hockey and tennis.

By supporting multiple sports and community clubs, we’re working together to help improve community wellbeing and connectedness for thousands of people.

Council has a good working relationship with Aldinga Sports Park clubs, and continue to work with them to plan for future facilities.

We met with all Aldinga Sports park users as a group in August this year, and then with individual groups in November to discuss their specific needs in more detail.

We look forward to more, broader community engagement as part of the next planning and design phases.
