ENQUIRY – ABC Radio Adelaide
The producer requested an interview/information about claims from a local business owner regarding access to businesses at the upcoming Beachside Food and Wine Festival.
RESPONSE
The Beachside Food and Wine Festival is a much-loved annual event that attracts thousands of visitors, supports more than 77 businesses – the majority of them local – and delivers strong economic and social benefits for the Christies Beach area and wider community.
For the 2026 festival, the council has made safety-led improvements informed by operational experience and security advice.
These include reducing the number of entry points to ensure effective crowd management and compliance with liquor licensing requirements.
The council has engaged with local businesses over several months regarding the event footprint and access arrangements and has put practical measures in place to ensure surrounding businesses remain accessible during the event, including delayed fencing, clear signage and targeted communications.
The council will continue to work collaboratively with businesses, residents and event partners to deliver successful community events while prioritising public safety, regulatory compliance and the long-term sustainability of major events.
