Place of Courage – Ripple

Place of Courage ripple

Rotary Park, Christies Beach
Artists: CHEB
May 2021

Words carved on the surface of the granite: Dedicated to all who have died, all who have suffered and all who are still suffering from domestic and family violence. May you find comfort and healing here.

Words from the artists: The ripple is a perfect analogy for the pervasive effects of domestic violence and it’s far reaching effect. It is simultaneously a perfect representation of how positive actions of love, kindness and care go on to help many.

Rotary Park is the first Ripple of Ripples Across South Australia.

The Spirit of Woman is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to advocate a world free from domestic violence, to provide comfort and healing, to promote courage to speak up and out and create unity for everyone. The CoO have been working with Spirit of Woman for the last few years to develop this project. The central objective of the Place of Courage project is to create a work which encourages recognition if this issue using public art and design. The site will be a place of comfort and healing, promoting courage to speak up and out and providing a powerful symbol of a peaceful and unified community. This site is significant in that Helen Oxenham was one of the founders of the first Women’s Shelter in Adelaide which was situated on Beach Road, Christies Beach.
