Built in 1863 of sandstone rubble with brick dressings, the former hotel was first licensed to WB Hooper until 1875 when the hotel lost its license. The building then became a Temperance Hotel in 1876. The stables at the rear of the building are from decking of the original 1857-58 timber bridge across the Onkaparinga River at Clarendon.
