Planting trees in parks and reserves

pocket-forest-1.jpg

Given the space restrictions of planting in streets, it's important that we plant very large trees in our parks and reserves where there are fewer restrictions to their growth.

We are working to increase trees and vegetation cover in our parks and reserves to help create habitat and cool our suburbs, in line with our Tree Management Policy and as part of our urban greening targets.

Legacy trees

Reserves have been chosen that are suitable for planting large tree species that are often unsuitable for streetscapes e.g. Moreton Bay Figs. These trees we hope will grow into significant iconic trees for future generations.

Pocket forests

We're planting micro forests of large trees in reserves across Onkaparinga's urban areas to create amenity, shade and habitat.  Here's just a few of the 30+ locations that our teams have planted so far, for you to go and explore.
