Media response - Port Willunga North Coast Park

Response to The Advertiser.

  • Just wondering if you can tell me whether the Port Willunga North Coast Park was approved to move forward? If so, could you please provide some comment from council about what this means for the region and how it will benefit the local community?

Comments attributed to Mayor Erin Thompson

We’re excited about the prospect of delivering an iconic cliff-top path linking Port Willunga with Maslin Beach, which will become a drawcard to locals and visitors of all ages and abilities.

Onkaparinga’s 31 kilometres of coastline encompass some of the most spectacular beaches in the state, so it’ll be fantastic to deliver another key part of our vision for a continuous trail from Lonsdale to Sellicks Beach.

This will also bring us a step closer to delivering the state government’s Coast Park vision, which aims to develop a 70-kilometre shared-use path from North Haven to Sellicks, funded by State and Local Government.

Not only will this project improve access and facilities along the foreshore between Port Willunga and Maslin Beach, it will generate significant community benefit through improved recreation opportunities and stimulate economic development while protecting the natural environment and culturally significant sites.

We received hundreds of responses throughout the community engagement period and we thank the community the significant and well considered feedback.

The next steps of the project will be to progress detail design guided by the feedback and working with the community to see this project become a reality.
