New management and upgrades for Noarlunga Leisure Centre

In February 2021 the City of Onkaparinga will take responsibility for the management of Noarlunga Leisure Centre, which includes both the Noarlunga Aquatic Centre and St Vincent Recreation Centre.
Onkaparinga Mayor Erin Thompson said the transition will result in a range of positive outcomes for centre users and ratepayers.
“Bringing management in-house allows us to drive greater efficiency and better value for our ratepayers; deliver significant upgrades to the centre; and best meet our community’s sport and recreation needs,” she said.
This change follows the successful transition of three other indoor recreation centres at The Hub, Seaford and Aldinga to an in-house, council-managed model in 2018.
“That experience positions us well to manage a smooth transition and create an exciting future for the Noarlunga Leisure Centre.
Council is also planning several upgrades and improvements for the aquatic centre to improve the customer experience and to reduce energy consumption and costs. These improvements will be delivered when funding becomes available.
Investment in the St Vincent Recreation Centre is also planned.
“Our communities’ recreation needs are changing and that in turn has changed how our centres are being used.
“We need to respond to this, and we’re best placed to do so by managing the centres ourselves,” Mayor Thompson said.
