Media response - Aldinga-Willunga Cycleway

Published on 16 April 2020

Response to Southern Times Messenger.

  • I'm writing a small article about the Aldinga to Willunga Cycleway options looking for community feedback. Can I please get one or two quotes about how the community has asked for a cycleway and how this would be good to fix the east/west network gap between Aldinga and Willunga?

Comments attributed to Kirk Richardson, Director City Operations

Multiple requests for cycle links between Aldinga and Willunga were submitted by community groups and individuals for consideration in the State Government’s Fund My Neighbourhood program in 2018.

City of Onkaparinga supports the cycleway because our Trails and Cycling Strategic Management Plan (TCSMP), which sets our service level, identifies a major east/west cycling network gap between the two iconic townships.

Currently there is no Federal, State and/or Council funding commitment(s) for the cycleway, however we’ll continue to explore funding opportunities because it will provide connections between the Coast to Vines Rail Trail, Willunga and the Aldinga Coast once constructed.
