Response to The Advertiser.

• I'm a journalist with The Advertiser and I'm writing about a western suburbs council exploring the option of installing CCTV with 24/7 monitoring at every public toilet in the council area. I wanted to ask whether Onkaparinga has anything similar. Does Onkaparinga have CCTV cameras installed around public toilets (or in other public spaces) which is monitored 24/7 by a private security company? How much does this cost council annually? 

The City of Onkaparinga does use CCTV, but we do not publicly disclose the locations or operational details of this equipment to maintain their effectiveness in deterring crime and vandalism.

Wherever possible, council applies for state and federal government community safety and crime prevention grants to offset related costs.
