This project will deliver benefits for both pedestrians and motorists, ensuring a smoother and safer journey for all.
Minor maintenance work adjacent to the electrical substation has taken place this financial year, with the major reconstruction work due to occur in 2025 subject to the council's budgetary process. The reconstruction work will likely take eight-to-10 weeks pending weather and contractor availability.
Access will be allowed for the majority of these works with traffic restrictions in place, and road closures only likely to be utilised at key points in the construction program where required. We’ll provide advanced notification to the community so they can plan accordingly. We recently resurfaced Coxs Hill Road knowing that it may be used as an alternative route during the works.
I encourage anyone who uses this section of Bains Road to head to our Your Say page to check out the reconstruction plans and provide feedback by Sunday 21 April.
The City of Onkaparinga maintains a $1 billion road network including 2300km of kerbs, 1410km of sealed roads, 142km of unsealed roads and 32km of guard rails, with the Bains Road reconstruction just one of several road work projects underway in the wider region.
Other projects include the upgrade of 21 intersections in McLaren Vale to improve road safety, a reconstruction of Old Coach Road in Maslin Beach, an intersection upgrade at Piggott Range Road and Upper Penneys Hill Road in Onkaparinga Hills, traffic calming works on Outlook Drive in Aberfoyle Park, and two safety upgrades in Chandlers Hill.
