Tourism business support

Tourism is an important contributor to the City of Onkaparinga, injecting approximately $256 million into our local economy, providing employment opportunities for thousands of residents, and contributing to the vibrancy and lifestyle of our communities. Our city is part of the Fleurieu Peninsula tourism region, which is the most visited region outside of Adelaide.

Council is committed to fostering a prosperous, diverse, and competitive visitor economy, as well as making our city an enticing destination to live, work, and explore. With strengths ranging from the renowned food and drink scene to the stunning aquatic experiences, rich arts offerings, and vibrant event calendar, it’s easy to see why our city is a great visitor destination.

To promote our city to visitors we have a destination brand: McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast. Our dedicated tourism team focuses on:

  • Advocating for the tourism industry, collaborating closely with Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism to ensure a unified voice and prioritised opportunities for our region.
  • Developing inspiring and targeted marketing strategies to elevate destination awareness across various platforms including website and social media (#ValeandCoast).
  • Working with our local tourism businesses and delivering impactful programs, workshops, and events to enhance visitor experiences and foster capacity building.
  • Creating inviting places and precincts that attract visitors, encourage longer stays, and drive economic activity. This includes advocating for funding to enhance our mainstreets.
  • Connecting new businesses with the industry and guiding investors through the planning process.
