Response to the Fleurieu Sun.

  • We want to promote the positives of our four regional councils. Can you please list some of the big projects the City of Onkaparinga has invested in the region, in particular the Willunga and McLaren Vale areas. The project and dollar value please. Can be a project that is upcoming too.

Key Southern Vales projects

  • Southern Materials Recovery Facility - SA's largest and most advanced household recyclables facility was opened at Southern Region Waste Resource Authority (SRWRA) Seaford Heights's site in November 2021, and it now processes the household recyclables of the entire southern suburbs and Fleurieu Peninsula. SRWRA is a subsidiary entity of Cities of Onkaparinga, Marion and Holdfast Bay and the SMRF is a joint venture between SRWRA and Re.Group. More info.
  • Flat to Vale Trail - a 3.6-kilometre shared-use trail linking the townships of McLaren Flat and McLaren Vale will be completed in 2022. More info.
  • Aldinga Sports Park upgrade - An investment in the new Aldinga Payinthi College indoor recreation and sporting facilities to ensure new, high-quality facilities for community outside of school hours. More info.
  • Aldinga Bay Surf Life Saving Club - new 400 sq m clubrooms, featuring a bar, kitchen, training and entertainment area, office, and storage for equipment, were opened in late 2021. More info.
  • Route 31 Coastal Drive - this new coastal tourist drive, showcasing 31 kilometres of idyllic coastline to the world, was launched in March. More info.
  • Willunga Basin Trail - this 130-kilometre volunteer-built bush walking trail, supported by City of Onkaparinga, was opened for the community to enjoy in April. More info.
  • Vision for a Sustainable Aldinga Development - Council has developed a detailed vision for a sustainable and climate resilient suburban development on 60 hectares of state government land in Aldinga, which would set a new benchmark for sustainable development in Australia. More info.
