Media response - Sea and Vines cancellation

Media response to On the Coast.

  • I recently noticed the McLaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism Association said that Sea and Vines has been cancelled... it would be very helpful to have a comment from the Mayor on her take of the cancellation and if she thinks it will have a negative impact on tourism in the area.

Comment from Mayor Erin Thompson

MVGWTA recognised issues with the event and we support them in their decision to cancel it. We don’t see it having a long-term negative impact on tourism in the area because the long weekend and Sea and Vines’ associated venues are likely, over time, to be filled by other events/attractions, including MVGWTA’s plans for a new in-region event in 2021.

McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast is a popular short break destination and our local wineries, breweries, distilleries, restaurants and attractions offer exceptional experiences for visitors all year round.

We encourage visitors looking for alternative options for the June long weekend to pick up or download a copy of our McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast Visitor Guide or to visit the McLaren Vale & Fleurieu Visitor Information Centre where one of our local specialists can assist in planning your next visit.

Additionally, Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism run an annual winter campaign Embrace the Brisk, which promotes all the unique and exciting experiences on offer across the region over this period.
