Media response - Old Noarlunga shooting range proposal

Response to The Advertiser.

  • I have been on the phone to Peter Heggie from the Gunnery about the council's misconduct with the development of the shooting range at Old Noarlunga. He really believes the council should make the disciplinary actions and findings of the misconduct public. I was hoping to get some sort of statement from the council if possible or at least a confirmation of the misconduct.

I can confirm a document relating to a development application at the former Abattoir site on Church Hill Road in Old Noarlunga has been made available to a member of the public.

While any member of the public can attend council offices to view relevant development application documents, copies of those documents should not be provided for people to take away.

In accordance with council policy, the matter was referred to an independent party for investigation, and the recommendations of the independent party has been followed in all respects.

This included action concerning the staff member involved, the nature of which cannot be disclosed for privacy reasons.

To ensure ongoing confidence in the process relating to this development application, it will be assessed by an independent external planning consultant and determined by the Council Assessment Panel, comprising four independent representatives and one elected member.

Council has engaged the external consultant to assure the applicant and the community that the application will be considered independently, in accordance with relevant legislation and the local development plan.
