Enquiry - The Advertiser

The Advertiser is compiling an article about what each council plans to do for Australia Day in 2026.

  1. What is your council doing for Australia Day 2025?
  2. Will it be hosting a 2025 citizenship ceremony on Australia Day, January 26? If not, when will it be hosting citizenship ceremonies?
  3. Is this different to your 2024 arrangements?

Response

The following outlines the City of Onkaparinga’s planned activities on Australia Day 2026, which align with events and activities held on Australia Day in 2025.

2026 Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony

The City of Onkaparinga holds an annual citizenship ceremony on 26 January. This is a private event for the families and individuals involved. This is one of several citizenship ceremonies held throughout the year.

2026 Australia Day Breakfasts

Our free annual Australia Day Breakfasts will be held once again from 8am until 11am at:

  • Aberfoyle Park – Happy Valley Sports Park
  • Willunga – Centenary Park, Binney Road Willunga (No pets allowed with the exception of medical aid dogs).

Residents need only bring a picnic rug or chair. The breakfasts have a great atmosphere and are enjoyed by all ages.

The breakfasts are funded by the City of Onkaparinga and delivered by local community groups, including Willunga and District Lions Club, and Happy Valley Sports Park.

The breakfast in Ramsay Place, Noarlunga Centre won’t be held in 2026 after the previous community group host advised they were unable to deliver the event.

An expression-of-interest process was conducted to secure a new host for Ramsay Place, and negotiations are continuing, but if the event is to return it would not occur until 2027 at the earliest.

2026 Australia Day Family Fair and Fireworks from 530pm at South Adelaide Football Club oval

This free annual event draws thousands of people each year.
