Wilfred Taylor Reserve

Bring the family to Wilfred Taylor Reserve for a relaxing day.  On the second and fourth Sunday of the month there are Train rides for a minimal charge.  You are welcome to bring your four legged friends and take them for a walk around the dog obstacle course or just relax and soak up the family atmosphere in one of the sheltered barbecue areas. 

Dog must be on-leash throughout the park, except for the obstacle course - they where they can be off-leash but must be under effective control .

Nature lovers can follow the walking trail along the upper reaches of Christie Creek, marvelling at the majestic river red gums and abundant native birdlife.

History of Wilfred Taylor Reserve

The reserve was named after Wilfred Charles Taylor (1894-1976) who served in the 3rd Light Horse regiment in WWI and was a member of the Noarlunga District Council from 1937 to 1965.  Wilfred was one of seven children of Richard and Mary Taylor who moved to Morphett Vale prior to 1850 and occupied land which was previously owned by John Stewart Turner, who may have built the residence here named ‘Thrushgrove’ in the mid-1840s. This historic home is located on the southern side of Wheatsheaf Road and is visible from the road.

The land on which the reserve is located is not part of the original land sections bought by the Taylor family in the 1850s, so would have been acquired some time later to expand their farm. The Taylors farmed the land until it was sold for subdivision in the late 1960s. Cyril Patrick Taylor owned the reserve land from about 1923 and after his death it was left to his daughters. The land was transferred to the District Council of Noarlunga in 1967 and zoned as public park land in 1968. Cyril was a brother of Wilfred Charles Taylor, after whom the reserve was named.
